est. It’s an important part of life. Without sleep, we stop functioning well. Without mental rest and time to unplug, we can end up struggling with burnout, overload, and anxiety. Thankfully, we have days off in our week, and extra days off as holidays.
Jess and I have to remind ourselves to take this time of rest. We have a tendency to fill our schedule and push forward when we know we should slow down. Even with good things. We are constantly in a state of learning that we need time to step away from the work and stress, and intentionally take time to rest. When we take the time to rest and recharge, we can return with new energy and a clear mind.
True rest is a gift from God, and this only comes from being in relationship with Jesus. “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29). Let’s lean into Him and celebrate this gift. It’s when we are close to the Lord that He provides rest for our souls. In Him, we can find the ultimate peace.
Today, as you enter into Christmas with your family, I’d encourage you to unplug. Step away from the world. Step away from trying to solve all the problems that you want to fix, step away from any present stresses, and just be. Take time to focus on Jesus and the rest that comes from being in relationship with Him. Let Him restore your soul.
While this is a marriage site where we give you ways to improve your marriage, we fully believe that the best and most important thing that you can do for your marriage is to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-10). He is the most important gift we have ever been given.
